Socorro has two industrial parks with space available for lease.
The largest, Socorro Industrial Park, consists of 800 acres of property with all utilities. It is adjacent to the railroad and is bisected by U.S. 60. Socorro General Hospital, the State Forestry Service, a concrete mix plant, an engineering firm, and a local propane company are among tenants already in the park.
Socorro’s Industrial Park is home to some state of the art recreational facilities, which promise to draw more visitors from outside of the county and provide improved services to locals. Among the new facilities is the City of Socorro Rodeo and Sports Arena. The Sports Complex, also at the Industrial Park, now has soccer fields and an RV Park for out-of-town guests. Soon, the complex will boast a two mile walking/running trail, a cross country running trail, and possibly a BMX trail, as well. The City has acquired the National Guard Armory at the Industrial Park, which will become the City's Convention Center.
The City’s second industrial park, New Mexico Tech Industrial/Research Park, is located at the base of “M” Mountain. With a total of 650 acres, including utilities, the site is adjacent to a 32-square mile testing area capable of handling ordnance and other explosive materials. Alliant and Aerojet are two companies located at NM Tech's Research Park. The proximity to the main campus provides a connection to both the academic and the research activities within the university.
Technology related activities at New Mexico Tech include optics, energetic materials, water research, geosciences, atmospheric research, computer sciences, petroleum recovery, mining, environment, and energy.
